Bookkeeping and financials for a pressure washing company
Marketing decisions are financial decisions, and most washers are guessing. If you do not know your gross margin per service line, you cannot say what a lead is worth, which means you cannot say whether a $35 call is cheap or ruinous.
Clean books answer that in a page. Chemical, fuel, labor, wear and travel against revenue by service tells you that roof work carries a much fatter margin than concrete, or that your commercial accounts are quietly subsidized by your residential work. Owners are often surprised by which line pays.
Monthly, you want a profit and loss statement, categorized spend, and marketing costs broken out by channel next to the booked revenue from that channel. That is the report that ends the argument about whether ads work, and it takes about ten minutes to read once it exists. It is also the difference between setting an ad budget by feel and setting one you can defend.
